The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course is the best way for you to learn the basics of pistol shooting from the top firearms training organization in the world, the NRA! The course is the first step for you to obtain the proper certification for your concealed carry permit in some states. Be sure to contact your county, city, or state to find out whether this course fulfills the requirement. You’ll learn the essential gun safety rules, different types of pistols and which one is best for you, the basics of ammunition, the fundamentals of pistol shooting, different shooting positions, the most common shooting errors, proper gun cleaning and maintenance, and how to maintain your skills.

NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course
Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense.
This is an 8-hour course and cost is $180.00. This course is a combination of classroom learning and practical exercises with shooting on our private range. Email for course registration. You will be invoiced for the training which is nonrefundable.

NRA Basic CCW
The NRA Basic CCW course at Willapa Firearms Training is ready to teach you the basics of concealed carry. We’ll work on your shooting, drawing from concealment, situational awareness, ammunition selection, and much more.
This is an 8-hour course and cost is $180.00. This course is a combination of classroom learning and practical exercises with shooting on our private range. Email for course registration. You will be invoiced for the training which is nonrefundable.
An outside the waistband, dominant side holster worn with a quality belt is needed for this course.

Pistol Mounted Optics for Defensive Pistol Shooting
Red Dot Sights for Defensive Pistol is being offered here at Willapa Firearms Training on our private range and classroom located in SW Washington.
This course is NOT intended for 1st time shooters but will be for advanced skills building and application of the red dot sight on pistols for defensive shooting. If you are not sure about being prepared for this course, message us for more details.
A red dot sight equipped pistol is mandatory for this course, rentals may be available. Other gear requirements are a quality holster attached to a belt, 3 pistol magazines and pouches, eye & ear protection, billed cap, and a minimum of 350 rounds of ammunition.
For local area lodging suggestions, email us for a list of recommended accommodations. This course is being taught by instructors with over 20 years of LE firearms instructor experience and certifications specific to the red dot sights on pistols platform.

Semi-Auto Rifle Course, Phase 1
Our Semi-Auto Rifle Course, Phase 1, is an introduction to and the basics for the AR style rifles. This is an 8 hour course that begins with safety and marksmanship fundamentals, diagnostics, MOA/Zeroing, loading, unloading, ad ready positions. We will also work in reloads, prone shooting, and standing shooting C-Grip. The day will finish with disassembly, cleaning, and assembly of the rifle. This course is a prerequisite for our Phase 2 and Phase 3 Semi-Auto Rifle Courses! This is an 8 hour course.

Semi-Auto Rifle Course, Phase 2
Next Steps, Fixing the Gun and Movement
After a review from phase 1 we will begin work on Positional Shooting, fixing the rifle with both simple and complex malfunction clearances and how to transition to handgun when too close to fix the malfunction. We will also discuss and demonstrate the ability to work with sight off-set for different distances of engagement. Next we’ll move into bi-lateral shooting and shooting from cover and movement with turning and shooting and shooting on the move.
Phase 1 successful completion is a prerequisite for this course. Phase 2 is a prerequisite for attendance to our Phase 3 course.
This is an 8-hour course.

Semi-Auto Rifle Course, Phase 3
Low Light and the Rifle
In the Semi-Auto Rifle Course, Phase 3 we will work on shooting and manipulating the rifle in low-light conditions. We’ll start out in the classroom talking about our vision, safety precautions, and flashlight techniques before moving outside to the range for live-fire drills for shooting in low-light, reloads, malfunctions, use of cover, and decision making.
This course requires successful completion of Phase 1 and Phase 2 of our Semi-Auto Rifle Courses for attendance.
This is a 4-hour course that is held during low-light conditions.

NRA Pistol INSTRUCTOR Shooting Course

This course is at least 10 hours long (we’ve added a 2nd day to the pistol instructor class from 8am to 2pm for 16 hours on just pistol instructor training and at least 6 hours with Basic Instructor Training) and includes classroom and range time learning how to teach shooting revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Instructor Candidates learn how to teach NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, Instructor Manual, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Pistol Instructor Shooting Examination, and course completion certificate.

WACJTC Private Security, Private Investigator, and Bail Bond Recovery Agent Firearms Training – Firearms Certificate
Willapa Firearms Training offers Washington State Certification for individuals requiring a firearms certificate to meet RCW and WAC requirements. Initial training is a mandated 8 hour course. Yearly renewals are a mandated 4 hour course. In our 8 hour course will will include the required classroom instruction, written test, range training and pistol qualification required for your CJTC firearm certification. Our goal is to make you more than ready for the practical skills, knowledge, and attitude for meeting state standards and give you a confidence to properly perform your duties. You must be at least 21 years of age, legally able to possess a firearm, and not be under the influence of intoxicating liquor and or drugs.
Our instructor at WFT is certified through the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission to provide all training and documentation for applying for your armed license from WA DOL.
Prior to applying for a firearms certificate, private security and investigators must have an active unarmed or armed license issued by WA DOL. Bail Bond Recovery Agents must have either an armed/unarmed license issued by WA DOL or a concealed pistol license. Your application must be submitted by the employing company.
The Firearms Certificate Process:
Apply at the WA State Department of Licensing (DOL) for your Armed License.
Complete an 8-hour Firearms Certificate Training Class using a Private Security Certified Instructor (that’s us!). Here’s the study guide for you to download HERE. We also encourage you to know the course of fire and practice it, HERE.
Complete the written test with us at our training.
Complete your firearm qualification for each firearm make/model you carry while working which you also will do with us at our training.
If you are a fully commissioned LEO that would like to apply for a Firearms Certificate, please review this information sheet and see how we can help you out.

You will need a minimum of 250 rounds of ammunition, range appropriate clothing, your agency semi-automatic pistol with 3 magazines, 2 magazine pouches, a quality holster (SERPA type holsters are not allowed), or a revolver with at least 3 speed loading devices, speed loader holders, and a a quality holster. You will also need eye and ear protection (amplified hearing protection is preferred and can be made available for your use).
Law Enforcement Officer’s Safety Act (LEOSA) Certification
The Federal Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act (LEOSA – 18USC926C) authorizes retired and separated law enforcement officers nationwide to carry concealed weapons throughout the country. We are able to provide you, qualified retired law enforcement officers who meet the requirements of RCW 36.28A.090 & 18USC926C), with the firearms qualification required. The qualification sheet (form 734) should then be submitted with a form 733, which will be your responsibility. We DO NOT issue anything else as part of this training. We charge $55/hour for this service.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
Handgun(s) with authorized holster:
Authorized holsters must: be designed to be carried concealed, outside or inside the waistband is authorized. Be able to securely hold the handgun being used. All retention devices be fastened when the firearm is in the holster. They must be defeated/ deactivated as part of the draw stroke and re-engaged as the firearm is re-holstered.
Ammunition specific to handgun: Minimum 25 rounds per handgun, keep in mind the qualification course requires 25 rounds per handgun. Eye and hearing protection. An outer garment that conceals your handgun.
