Heath Layman
Heath Layman is the owner and lead firearms instructor for Willapa Firearms Training. Heath has been a law enforcement officer since 1993 in SW Washington and has been teaching handgun and rifle shooting skills to law enforcement since 2003. In addition to being an NRA Law Enforcement Firearm Instructor for handguns and patrol rifles, Heath is a certified NRA Training Counselor and instructs various NRA courses including; Home Firearms Safety, Pistol, Rifle, Range Safety Officer, Chief Range Safety Officer, and Personal Protection in the Home. Heath is a certified less-lethal-munitions instructor, portable steel target shooting instructor, TASER instructor, and has taught several reserve law enforcement academies covering topics such as the use of force, case law, and criminal law. Heath is also a GLOCK armorer an AR15 Armorer, and an FN LLM armorer and a Staff Instructor for NLEFIA (the National Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor’s Association) and the NRA Law Enforcement Division. Marcus Custer
Marcus has been a law enforcement trainer since 1996 and has taught a wide variety of leadership, investigative, tactical and use of force topics. He has provided training to law enforcement officers at all skill levels from the basic academy to in-service training and Special Response Teams. As a Senior Firearms Instructor, he was responsible for all weapons training, defensive tactics and use of force training for SAC San Diego, a 400 agent office. Marcus is an Emergency Medical Technician and certified instructor in handgun, patrol rifle, precision rifle, submachine gun, and shotgun and holds certifications as a tactical shooting instructor, tactical medical instructor, and rangemaster. He has been an NRA Law Enforcement Instructor trainer in various disciplines since 2014. He also teaches for the Law Enforcement Division of the National Rifle Association. Marcus is also a co-author of the book, Red Dot Mastery, with firearms instructor and author Mike (Ox) Ochsner.
Hallee Mohr
Hallee is a civilian pistol instructor teaching with us since June of 2021. Growing up on a range, Hallee watched her grandfather and her father teaching both law enforcement and civilians in the safe handling of pistols, rifles, and shotguns and loves the shooting sports. Hallee is an accomplished athlete, competing for the University of Hawaii in track and field where she made it to the NCAA finals as well as the Olympic Trials in discus in the summer of 2024.
Michael Ware
Michael has been a law enforcement trainer since 1980 and has taught a wide variety of topics over the years. In addition to pistol Instructor certifications through NLEFIA, the NRA LE Division and the CJTC, Michael is one of our NRA Civilian Pistol Instructors, Personal Protection in the Home, CCW instructors, and a Range Safety Officer. He is retired from the Washington State Patrol and is currently the Lead Firearms Instructor with Walden Security in Seattle and is contracted to the USMS for Firearms Training of all the Court Security Officers in the Federal Courts in Western Washington. He is also a trainer in the use of the MILO Firearms Range Training System for Law Enforcement and Civilians in the Use of Deadly Force decision making through simulator training. In addition, he is also a Certified Glock Armorer.
